Learner Enrichment Activity – Appreciating an Iconic Local Landmark
As part of our enrichment program, some learners went for a closer look at an outstanding local landmark. It’s officially known as The Earl of Durham’s Monument, but we all know it as Penshaw Monument.
The iconic building can be seen from as far away as North Tyneside and is a copy of the Temple of Hephaestus in Athens. Learners who visited were impressed by the 70ft structure and its local importance. “Isn’t it on the Sunderland footy team’s badge?” Yes, it is… top left quadrant.
