Happy Diwali!
Today we celebrated the Hindu festival of lights known as Diwali.
First, we looked at the history behind Diwali and although the legend of the festival has many different origins, we found that they all have the same meaning, to celebrate good over evil and new beginnings.
Diwali is a word derived from an ancient Indian language called Sanskrit and translates to mean "row of lights." Many Hindus decorate their homes with rows of clay lamps called diva lamps, set off fireworks as well as having a huge feast and sharing presents.
We created our own "row of lights" to celebrate Diwali here in school.
