We are proud that safeguarding is an integral part of the ethos of Trinity Academy Newcastle. A safe and caring environment helps our learners flourish into confident, happy people with a positive outlook on life.

We listen to any concerns or worries our pupils have and act accordingly to support them and make sure they are well cared for. Our links to outside agencies, our own school psychotherapist and our safeguarding team’s commitment to our learner’s welfare provides the extra layer of protection some children require.

Our safeguarding team all have regular external training to allow them to do their job with skill, knowledge and confidence. All staff working in the school have safeguarding training annually. This covers general safeguarding requirements, a deeper focus on a topic that is relevant at the time and a section on the Keeping Children Safe in Education guidance. This gives all the staff the confidence they need to notice potential problems and raise any concerns in a timely and appropriate way.

We think it is important to work in partnership with parents, carers and outside agencies to help our pupils achieve their full potential. There are occasions when our concern about a child may mean that we have to consult other agencies.  Whilst we would always aim to work in partnership with parents there may be exceptions to this when concerns are raised for the protection of a child.

On very rare occasions Social Care, whilst undertaking an investigation under s47 of the Children Act 1989, may want to speak to a child without parents’ knowledge.   This would be a decision made in collaboration with partner agencies and would only be done in situations where a child might be at immediate risk.  To gain consent at this point may increase the level of risk to the child or cause evidence of a crime to be lost.

To promote a safe environment for learners, our recruitment policy includes all checks on staff suitability, including Criminal Records Bureau checks, as recommended by Newcastle LA in accordance with current legislation.

Trinity Academy Newcastle Multi Academy Trust recognises the moral and statutory responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of all our learners. We will endeavour to provide a safe and welcoming environment where children and young people are respected and valued. We will be alert to the signs of abuse and maltreatment and will follow our procedures to ensure that learners receive effective support, protection and justice. The procedures contained in our policy apply to all staff and governors and are consistent with those of the Newcastle Safeguarding Children Partnership.

Safeguarding Adults

Trinity Academy Multi Academy Trust recognise their role and statutory responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of our adult learners. We work closely with other organisations using multi-agency policies and procedures, to protect and prevent abuse of adults at risk. The procedure contained in our policy applies to all staff and governors and are consistent with those of the Newcastle adult safeguarding board.

Safeguarding Online

Childline aims to help children who have been groomed, or who have experienced sexual harassment and abuse online. Under 18's who want nude pictures or videos of themselves removed from the internet can now report the images through this online tool. The Internet Watch Foundation will examine images and then try to remove them if they break the law.

To get an image removed, the child/young person needs to visit the Childline website and follow the simple steps. The Internet Watch Foundation will read all reports within one working day, from Monday to Friday. If the image is on a UK-based website it can often be removed within 2-3 hours. In other countries, it can take longer - sometimes days or weeks.
