Dystopian Classics Revisited
As part of their English programme for the Summer Term, Year 8 and Year 10 are studying two 20th Century classics where a seemingly perfect scenario turns into a disturbing reality.
Animal Farm by George Orwell tells the tale of a group of animals who, sick of being oppressed by their parasitic owner, create a rebellion and run the farm themselves. Their idyllic state all starts to go pretty sour pretty quickly though…
And in Lord of the Flies by William Golding, a group of boys think they’ve found a paradise after their plane crashes on a desert island. Are there monsters waiting for them in the forest or should they be more worried about what’s lurking inside their own hearts and minds…?
Both books are being very well received by the learners.
