Reading Initiative at Trinity Academy New Bridge.
This week has seen the introduction of lessons designed to elevate the status of reading among the learners at Trinity Academy New Bridge, helping learners to understand how a good book can enrich their thoughts and opinions.
Across the year groups a selection of classics and new publications have been chosen with the sole aim of helping to get our young minds to engage with texts which are bound to get them thinking.
The first set of books being studied are:
Year 7 - When I See Blue by Lily Bailey. A child who thinks a little bit differently moves to London and starts a new high school.
Year 8 – War Horse by Michael Morpurgo. A tale of war, friendship and loyalty which has become a film and a stage production.
Year 9 – The Curious incident of the Dog in the Night-time by Mark Hadden. A murder mystery like no other.
Year 10 – To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee. One man’s struggle for justice in a deeply intolerant society.
Year 11 – A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson. The entire understanding of Science and History in one manageable paperback.
The other texts planned incorporate a similarly diverse set of texts which we hope will continue to challenge our learners. Watch this space for updates.
